An emoticon is a piece of small computer
generated art that is used when chatting
online. Many users of emoticons use them while
using an instant messenger service like yahoo
instant or MSN messenger.
An emoticon displays your emotions; show
your tone of how you would be speaking if you
were in person.
Many people use emoticons to display what their body
language or actions would be if they were able to show the
person. So instead of simply typing hello, the user is able to
say hello and smile, then wink. The meaning behind what they
are saying becomes much clearer and much more illusive at the
same time.
Emoticons are designed to be simple. They are designed to be
easily typed or chosen in the natural flow of an Internet
conversation. Many people use emoticons in order to make their
conversation seem more real. Others however get interested in
emoticons and want to learn more about them.
So that they can then design their own emoticons and wow
their chatting partners. The best use however for an emoticon
is to cut down the chance of you’re message being misconstrued
by the reader. Many people shy away from using chat programs
because they can never get across what they actually mean. But
with emoticons they are able to fully express their tone.
Emoticons use what is called a BBCode to create small
pictures that represent humanity. BBCode is not case sensitive
and can sometimes provide some difficulties which transference
between programs. The very simple codes like = and ) (which
looks like a smiley face when coded into your program) work on
every platform. If you are planning to make emoticons you need
to stick to one platform to get it working before moving on to
another platform.
