Not only are these emoticons regular smiley faces with different expressions, but also many people have decided there should be themed emoticons. Some themes offer different animals or types of people, each with the various expressions, which can be used to accent your written messages.

Writing to friends on a holiday? For Valentine’s Day you should be able to find heart-shaped emoticons with cute faces. How about bunny or Easter egg themed emoticons around Easter? Or even a snowman or Christmas tree emoticon to add to your letters around Christmastime.
